I'm 55 and healthy. My friend tells me I should get Botox treatment for the "crow's feet" I have around my eyes. Is it safe? I don't want to end up looking worse than I do now.
We are not specialists in this field and we do not know you so it is not possible to make any comment regarding your intended treatment . What you would be advised to do if you are really sure that Botox is what you want, is to collect all the relevant information you can, weigh the pros and cons, and then make your own decision.
A practising Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon at Loftus Plastic Surgery Center in Cincinnati, Ohio says that "Botox will dramatically improve (and often vanish) horizontal forehead creases, scowl lines between your eyebrows, crow's feet, and vertical wrinkles of your upper lip. Botox is a toxin produced by a bacteria called botulinum. Although in very large doses it can cause botulism, Botox is safe in the doses used for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes. It has been used safely for decades in the United States. Botox relaxes the muscles by blocking impulses from the facial nerves. The muscle is then unable to contract, preventing wrinkles and smoothing the overlying skin. The untreated muscles contract normally allowing the normal facial expressions to continue unaffected".
However, there is always a financial cost involved and what many people are not aware of is that the effect of Botox injections are only temporary. Botox results may last about six months, although the range varies from 3 to 12 months. Please see the link below.
You may be unaware that there are other products available, StriVectin-SD and Dermectin, both used for reducing stretch marks and also effective for wrinkle reduction. Clinical Results Prove StriVectin-SD dramatically reduces both the length and depth of existing stretch marks. In addition to reducing the actual length and depth of stretch marks, Clinical Studies show StriVectin-SD decreases skin irregularity as well as improving skin texture and increasing smoothness.
The same original StriVectin is now available as an eye cream - which helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and dark circles around the eye.In the related link below, scroll down page for Product Description and Ingredients.
Dermectin has been Dermatologist tested. Perhaps you could discuss all this information you now have with your own doctor.
