Ten minutes is enough for a fitness workout
Reported by Susan Aldridge, PhD, medical journalist
Fitness experts give tips for a ten minute daily workout. It's easy to think you haven't got time to do a daily fitness routine - for many experts recommend half an hour a day, which is hard if you're busy with other things. But Phil Tyne, who heads up the Baylor Tom Landry Fitness Center in Dallas, counsels that you can achieve a lot on a ten minute fitness routine.
He combines cardiovascular exercise and strength training - recommending you alternate the two day by day. So, one day you do a brisk ten minute walk for cardiovascular fitness. The next day, follow a routine of ten strength training exercises - starting with push-ups for the chest, moving through back, arms and leg repetitions and finishing up with ab curls for the stomach area. Details are to be found at the American College of Exercise site (www.acefitness.org). Do each till you feel fatigued which will take less than a minute (if it takes longer, add more resistance). The ten minute workout is a useful basis for improved cardiovascular fitness and strength. Keep it up and you'll soon notice benefits in terms of fitness and overall health.
