The maker of Accusure Insulin Syringes issued a voluntary nationwide recall of two lots of Accusure Insulin Syringes, specifically 31 G-Short Needle, 0.5 cc or 1.0 cc, lot number 6JCB1 or lot number 7CPT1). Patients with diabetes who are using these insulin syringes are advised to stop using them immediately and to contact Qualitest Pharmaceuticals for instructions on product replacement.
The insulin syringes in the two recalled lots were found to have needles which might detach from the syringe. If the needle detaches from the insulin syringe during use, it may become stuck in the insulin vial, push back into the syringe, or remain in the skin after injection. The lot number is found on the white paper backing of each individual insulin syringe. According to the FDA news release, the recalled insulin syringes were distributed to wholesalers and retail pharmacies throughout the United States, including Puerto Rico, between May 2007 and June 2008.
