Managing Other Symptoms

Mouth Dryness

Mouth dryness can be very uncomfortable. Here are some ways to relieve it:

Use commercial products or liquid vitamin E to ease chapped lips.

Use mouth swabs moistened with water or suck on hard, sugar-free candy to relieve your dry mouth. Some new chewing gums designed especially to deal with dry mouth might help; ask your pharmacist for a pack.

Brush your teeth or use mouth sponges to clean your teeth, mouth, and tongue.

Use only alcohol-free or low alcohol formula mouthwashes. Alcohol and petroleum-based products can be very drying and should be used with care, if at all.
