I need a hip operation. I am overweight for my height. Should I lose weight?
Hip operations in people who are overweight are more likely to result in complications at the time of the operation and to have a less successful outcome. It is also true that some people who are overweight may not require an operation if they lose weight and increase their exercise tolerance. There can be no doubt that excess weight on a joint which is already not functioning too well is not a good thing.
