I have multiple sclerosis and would like to know where to get suitable exercise in a group activity.
Many gymnasiums have qualified staff who are only too prepared to help the disabled. Alternatively there are support groups, both within the domain of multiple sclerosis (such as the Multiple Sclerosis Society), or more generally, which organise sport for people with disability. An example is the Sailability group in Great Britain, through which sailing, perhaps even by themselves, is encouraged for disabled people. Another sailing group is the Jubilee Trust, which has a 3 master sailing vessel which disabled people are encouraged to use, including wheelchair users. This Trust is adept at managing all sorts of disability, even those in which incapacity of the person is marked. The Trust is at present building a second wooden sailing vessel because of the high demand for the first. So as you can see, good possibilities for disabled sports exist. The Multiple Sclerosis Society in your own country or national or local government information services are most likely to be able to provide you with specific contact details for what is available where you live.
