I take a lot of exercise but am not losing any weight, as I had hoped. Why is this?
Unless you are unwell, it would be very unlikely that you have a slow metabolic rate and the reason you are not losing weight is because your calorie intake is too high. It is almost impossible for people not to lose weight if they take 500-1000 kcal per day less than their energy requirements. It may take some working out what these energy requirements are and you may need the help of a dietician. In general you can have adlib fruit and vegetables and wholegrain cereals. You may find it useful to keep a food diary as people find that when they are carefully documenting what they eat, they eat less. A food diary may also identify certain domestic situations which precipitate binge eating. Finally we strongly advise people who are trying to lose weight to attend a group session where there is not only support and friendship but also good technical advice on diets.
