A new trial shows that chromium picolinate improves insulin sensitivity in people with diabetes.
Chromium is an essential mineral which has sometimes been promoted as a weight loss remedy. It's known to be important for the correct use of insulin so maybe it can be helpful to people with diabetes.
Researchers at the University of Vermont carried out a trial where chromium picolinate was added to the diet of a group of individuals with type 2 diabetes. Compared to a similar group on placebo, those on chromium had an increase of nearly ten per cent in insulin sensitivity. This suggests that the supplement might be useful in helping blood sugar control.
