I am a 77-year-old. I had a biopsy of my prostate, and I had blood in my urine for two days. Now I notice dark blood in my semen two months later. My urologist says small amounts of blood in the semen can usually be seen for about a month after the biopsy; but I should not be concerned, it could last 2 to 3 months. My prostate is enlarged (two times) with cancer indicated on one side. Should I be concerned? I'm considering having seed implants.
As you found out on your own it's not unusual for you to see blood in your semen weeks after a prostate biopsy. Not knowing how much tissue the surgeon had to remove for a biopsy makes it hard for me to assess the extent of bleeding that you might have. In other words the bigger the biopsy, the longer the oozing of blood from the vascular prostate. More than likely the blood is coming from the biopsy site. If you are not seeing blood in the urine I wouldn't worry at this time.
The stress on your prostate during sex and ejaculation can be enough to precipitate the biopsy area to bleed. This would be normal at this time.
If you see blood in your urine at about two months post-op or continue to see blood in your semen in another two weeks I would then notify your surgeon. You will be seen prior to having the seed implants, and this will be a good time for you to tell the surgeon of your continued bleeding.
